Anesthesia instruments used in dentistry

Often the patient suffers from excessive fear of visiting the dentist, perhaps this fear may come from not knowing the tools used and placed in his mouth, so your explanation of the tools used may reduce his fear a little.

Anesthesia instruments used in dentistry:

1- dental syringe made of stainless steel and are of three types the first type is aspiration dental syringe and what distinguishes this type is that it allows the elastic disk to be pulled inside the Carpule which is punched by the needle in the syringe Harpoon, Which helps to create negative pressure inside the carpule.
When you draw air and notice blood coming out, this means that you have inserted the needle into a blood vessel, and this is very wrong.
The second type is a non-aspiration dental syringe it does not contain harpoon, and the piston ends in a smooth end.
with a small initial injection of a solution and then releasing the pressure on the right piston we will achieve a slight amount of aspiration.
The third type is pressure syringe we use it when anesthetizing the pulp of the tooth and for intraligamentary injection, meaning that it is intended for use in a root filling.

2- Carpule anesthesia: Its components are mostly lidocaine and It consists of:
-Cylindrical glass tube
-Stopper
-Diaphragm
-The aluminum cup

3- Needles: it's almost stainless steel, they come in different shapes and types, It is usually used to transfer the local anesthetic from the carpule into
the tissue surrounding the needle tip.
It comes in three sizes: 25 -27 -30 gauge. ( gauge Means the unit for measuring the diameter of the needle ).
As for the needle length, it is either:
-long, 32 mm long, and is used to nerve block anesthesia Because the long needle is preferred for use in the mandibular injections.
-or short 25-20 mm, and we use a filtration technique Because the short needle is preferred for use in the maxillary injections.
